Walk and Talk with Lilacs
We are pleased to have representatives from ILS each festival to teach us about living with lilacs. This year we have several new additions to our calendar of lilac symposiums; learning about lilacs and walk and talk with lilacs sessions which teach care and pruning on Mackinac's finest or neediest lilac shrubs. Check our lilac festival calendar of events for times and locations.

Architectural Walking Tours

The island's architecture reflects the lifestyles of many over the centuries. Our early French buildings are distinct and reflect architectural styles found in Northern France. Military architecture and how military buildings are used are an expression of one's culture. Today, Mackinac Island's military architecture is used to remind and inform us about the creation and development of America. May we happily report, our military architecture retired from its duties over a century ago. Wealthy Midwestern industrialist families began constructing their Victorian summer cottages in the late 19th century. Soaring turrets, elaborate porches, stained and leaded glass windows, carved wood ornamentation and carriage houses reflect the taste and artisanship of a bygone era. Learn about Mackinac Island's architectural history of place. Check with the events calendar for schedule and tickets.
